McKenna Grace has delighted Hunger Games fans by paying tribute to Jennifer Lawrence’s iconic character, Katniss Everdeen, as excitement continues to build around the upcoming prequel, The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping.
The actress made a glamorous appearance at the opening of the costume exhibition Elegance is Authority: The Story, Style, and Power of Panem in Paris on Tuesday, October 6. Grace turned heads as she arrived wearing the famous white gown originally worn by Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire.
The stunning dress is one of the most memorable costumes from the Hunger Games franchise. In Catching Fire, Lawrence’s Katniss wears the elegant gown during an interview with television host Caesar Flickerman, played by Stanley Tucci. The interview was arranged under the orders of President Snow as part of the Capitol’s attempt to control the tributes and their public image.
However, the scene takes an unexpected turn when Katniss’s dress appears to burn away as she spins around. The white gown reveals a darker Mockingjay-inspired dress underneath, creating one of the film’s most powerful moments. The transformation becomes a clear symbol of rebellion against the Capitol and turns Katniss into an even stronger figure of resistance.
The original gown was designed by Indonesian fashion designer Tex Saverio. It features a detailed metallic bodice combined with a dramatic, full ruffled skirt. Its unusual design and theatrical transformation made it one of the most recognizable costumes in the franchise.
Grace appeared to embrace the meaning behind the iconic outfit as she showed off her look at the Paris exhibition. Sharing her appearance on TikTok, the actress also included a line connected to her character in the upcoming movie.
“If you let them treat you like an animal they will, so don’t let them,” Grace wrote, echoing one of the lines from Sunrise on the Reaping. The message added another connection between her tribute to Katniss and her own role in the new chapter of the franchise.
Grace was not alone at the event. She attended the exhibition alongside her co-star Joseph Zada, who is set to portray a young Haymitch Abernathy. Zada kept his look stylish and elegant, wearing a suit from ERL and completing his outfit with a Tiffany brooch.
The Paris event also marked the beginning of promotional activities for The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping, which is scheduled to arrive in cinemas on November 20.
In the upcoming film, Grace will take on the roles of Maysilee Donner and Merilee Donner, twin sisters from District 12 who become involved in the deadly Hunger Games. The sisters will find themselves serving as tributes alongside Haymitch Abernathy, who will be played by Zada.
Sunrise on the Reaping will be the sixth film in the popular Hunger Games movie franchise. Like the previous films, it is based on a novel by Suzanne Collins.
The story takes place decades before Katniss Everdeen becomes the face of the rebellion. It follows a young Haymitch as he is forced to compete in the Second Quarter Quell, a particularly brutal edition of the Hunger Games.
Fans already know Haymitch as Katniss and Peeta Mellark’s mentor, but the prequel will explore his earlier life and reveal what happened to him during the Games that shaped his future.
With Grace bringing a familiar Katniss look back to the spotlight, the new film’s promotional campaign has already created excitement among longtime fans of the franchise.
