SHO and gunman martyred in attack on police in Karak

A station house officer (SHO) and his gunman were martyred on Thursday when unidentified armed attackers opened fire on a police patrol in Karak district of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.

The incident occurred in the New Karpa area near the Karak-Kohat boundary. According to District Police Officer Imran Khan, personnel from Banda Daud Shah Police Station were carrying out a routine patrol when armed men suddenly opened fire on their vehicle.

SHO Daud Khan and his gunman, identified as Farhad, sustained critical injuries and were martyred in the attack. A passerby was also wounded in the firing.

Police officials rushed additional personnel to the area after receiving information about the attack. The site was cordoned off as security forces launched a search operation to locate and arrest those responsible.

Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the attack and are examining possible motives and routes used by the assailants to escape.

The attack comes amid a series of incidents targeting police personnel in Karak and other parts of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.

On September 9, a police constable was martyred and another officer injured when unidentified gunmen attacked a police vehicle during a routine patrol near Shatakai Dam in Karak.

In another attack on August 31, a police vehicle was struck by an improvised explosive device in Ghol Banda, within the Banda Daud Shah area. The blast killed the vehicle’s driver and injured six other police personnel.

Earlier on September 28, three traffic police officials were martyred when armed attackers targeted their vehicle in Wazirabad, Tank district.
