Speaking about the invitation during an interview with Drew Barrymore Mitski said Rodrigo personally reached out to her something she described as unusual and particularly meaningful.

Mitski explained that she already had other plans but immediately accepted the invitation because she understood how important the festival was to Rodrigo.
