Former Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Amir has dismissed reports suggesting that he could participate in the Indian Premier League (IPL), putting an end to growing speculation surrounding his possible entry into the lucrative Indian cricket tournament.
Rumours about Amir’s potential IPL appearance had been circulating in Indian media for some time, particularly following reports that he could become eligible to play in the competition after acquiring British citizenship.
However, the former Pakistan international has now addressed the speculation directly through a post on social media platform X, making it clear that the reports about his IPL participation are inaccurate.

“I just want to clarify that the circulating news regarding the IPL is not true,” Amir wrote in his post.
His statement comes after renewed attention surrounding his international eligibility and participation in overseas franchise cricket competitions.
Amir obtained a British passport in May this year, becoming a British citizen. His change in nationality sparked discussions about whether he could potentially enter the IPL as an overseas player without being treated under the restrictions applicable to Pakistani cricketers.
The speculation gained further momentum after Amir recently registered for the Afghanistan Premier League as a British citizen.
His registration for the Afghan competition prompted questions about his possible availability for other international franchise leagues, including the IPL. However, his latest clarification has dismissed the claims linking him to the Indian tournament.
Despite retiring from international cricket, Amir continues to remain active in franchise cricket and has participated in various T20 leagues around the world.
During his international career, the left-arm fast bowler represented Pakistan in 36 Test matches, 61 One-Day Internationals and 62 Twenty20 Internationals.
He established himself as one of Pakistan’s most recognised fast bowlers, earning international attention for his pace, swing and ability to deliver under pressure.
Amir remains a familiar name among cricket fans, and his performances in franchise competitions continue to attract interest.
For now, however, the former Pakistan pacer has made his position clear: reports suggesting that he will feature in the IPL should not be treated as accurate.
