Mountaineer Dr Asma Mushtaq’s body shifted to Spantik base camp

The body of Pakistani mountaineer Dr Asma Mushtaq, who died on the 7,027-metre-high Spantik peak, has been brought to the mountain’s base camp.

Volunteer mountaineers recovered and transported her body from Camp III to the Spantik base camp after a difficult search operation.

According to Shigar Deputy Commissioner Sher Afzal, Dr Asma Mushtaq died at Camp III on August 21 after falling ill during the expedition. Her body became buried under snow, making the recovery and transportation operation challenging.

During the search operation, local volunteer mountaineers located the body and gradually moved it down from Camp III. It has now been safely transferred to the Spantik base camp.

Officials said the body will be flown to Skardu by helicopter once weather and aviation conditions become suitable.

Authorities said adverse weather and flight conditions had delayed the aerial evacuation. The helicopter operation will begin as soon as the weather clears and flying conditions are declared safe.
