Elon Musk on Wednesday threatened to retaliate against Democrats who pursue investigations into him and his businesses if the party gains control of Congress in next month’s midterm elections.
“Live by the sword, die by the sword,” Musk wrote on X, the social media platform he owns, in response to a Politico report on Democratic lawmakers’ plans to scrutinise his activities and business interests.
“Those who pick fights with me should understand that I will find out who is really pulling the strings and come for them, not just their puppets,” he added.

Democrats are considering investigations into Musk’s role in the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), his companies’ government contracts and potential conflicts of interest, according to media reports. The scrutiny could also extend to decisions involving national security.
Musk worked with President Donald Trump’s administration on DOGE, an initiative aimed at cutting federal spending and reducing the size of the government. He left his role as a special government employee after a 130-day stint in late May, saying he would return his attention to his businesses, including electric carmaker Tesla and space company SpaceX.
Musk is a major financial backer of Trump’s Republican Party and a prominent ally of the president. His companies also have significant ties to the US government, including federal contracts awarded to SpaceX.
Republicans currently control both chambers of Congress. If Democrats win control of either chamber in the November 3 elections, they would gain greater power to conduct congressional oversight, including holding hearings and seeking documents and testimony.
