Islamabad: The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a weather advisory for the period July 6–10, 2026, warning of widespread rain-wind/thunderstorms and isolated heavy rainfall across northern and upper parts of the country.
According to the forecast, an active weather system will begin affecting northern Pakistan on July 6, bringing isolated rain and thunderstorms to Kashmir, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Islamabad, Potohar and northeastern Punjab.
From July 7 to 10, rainfall activity is expected to intensify, with scattered rain-wind/thunderstorms and isolated heavy falls over the upper catchments of the Indus, Jhelum, Chenab, Ravi and Sutlej rivers, including Islamabad, Potohar, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, northern Punjab and northern Balochistan. The most widespread rainfall is expected on July 7.
The expected rainfall may cause a slight increase in inflows into Tarbela and Mangla reservoirs, while water levels in the Indus, Jhelum, Chenab, Ravi and Sutlej rivers are also likely to rise moderately during the forecast period. At present, no significant river flooding is anticipated; however, localized increases in hill torrents and smaller streams are expected.
NDMA has cautioned that heavy downpours may trigger localized flash flooding in vulnerable hill torrents and upper catchments, urban flooding and waterlogging in low-lying areas, and landslides or mudslides in mountainous regions of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
The Authority has directed all Provincial Disaster Management Authorities (PDMAs), district administrations and relevant response agencies to remain vigilant, ensure readiness of emergency response teams, and closely monitor the evolving weather situation.
Citizens are advised to avoid unnecessary travel during heavy rainfall, stay away from rivers, streams and hill torrents, refrain from crossing flooded roads, and follow official advisories.
The public is encouraged to stay updated through official NDMA communication channels and take precautionary measures to minimize risks during the forecast period.
