Nepal flood death toll rises to 469

The death toll from devastating floods in Nepal’s border region has climbed to 469, while hundreds of people remain missing following widespread flooding and landslides.

Nepal’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the country does not currently require assistance from other nations for rescue and relief operations. The ministry acknowledged that offers of support from other countries were a natural response to the disaster.

A spokesperson said Nepal’s security agencies are leading search and rescue efforts in the affected areas. Rescue teams continue to search for missing people and assess the damage caused by the floods and landslides.

The disaster struck Nepal’s border region on Sunday, triggering severe flooding, while landslides also hit Tibet. The incidents left around 1,400 people missing across Nepal and the neighboring Chinese region.

Authorities have since located or accounted for a number of those reported missing, but around 900 people are still unaccounted for in Nepal and Tibet.

The flooding has caused extensive destruction in affected communities, disrupting transportation and damaging infrastructure. Emergency teams remain focused on reaching isolated areas, locating survivors and providing assistance to people affected by the disaster.

Nepalese authorities are continuing to monitor the situation as rescue operations remain underway. Officials have also urged people in vulnerable areas to remain cautious as emergency agencies assess the risks posed by further flooding and landslides.
