Nicki Minaj faces unpaid legal fee dispute

Nicki Minaj is facing fresh legal trouble after a law firm sought a default judgment against the rapper over nearly $230,000 in unpaid legal fees. The latest court filing has drawn attention as a judge considers whether to rule in the firm’s favour after Minaj allegedly failed to respond to the lawsuit.
According to reports, the lawsuit was filed by law firm Gordon Rees Scully Mansukhani LLP, which claims Minaj owes 229,541 for legal services provided during a previous copyright infringement case. The firm alleges that despite repeated requests for payment, the outstanding balance has not been settled.
Court documents state that the law firm filed the lawsuit earlier this year after its attempts to recover the unpaid fees were unsuccessful. The attorneys argue that Minaj did not file a formal response within the required deadline, prompting them to ask the court for a default judgment. If granted, the court could order the rapper to pay the full amount without the case proceeding to trial.
The legal fees are linked to Minaj’s defence in a copyright lawsuit filed in 2023 by musician Julius Johnson. Johnson alleged that Minaj’s song I Lied copied elements of his earlier work. That copyright dispute was later resolved through a confidential settlement, but the current case concerns the payment of legal costs rather than the copyright claims themselves.
A hearing has been scheduled for later this year, when a judge will decide whether to approve the requested default judgment. Until then, the case remains pending, and Minaj still has an opportunity to respond through legal counsel before a final ruling is issued.
Neither Minaj nor her representatives have publicly commented on the latest lawsuit. The rapper has remained active professionally, continuing to work on music and other projects despite facing several legal disputes in recent years.
