Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) MPA Nida Khuhro has said that Sindh’s constitutional identity cannot be reduced to an administrative decision, file or map.

Addressing the Sindh Assembly session, Khuhro said Sindh was not against Pakistan. Rather, she said, the province had played a significant role in the creation of the country.

She recalled the historic 1943 resolution passed by the Sindh Assembly, describing it as an important part of the history surrounding the establishment of Pakistan.

Khuhro said Sindh had always defended its constitutional identity and provincial autonomy and would continue to do so in the future.

She said the Pakistan being defended by the people of Sindh was the same Pakistan whose creation had received significant support from Sindh.

“Sindh’s constitutional identity is not limited to an administrative file,” she said, stressing that the province’s political and constitutional status had a much deeper historical significance.

The PPP lawmaker said maps could be drawn on paper and political statements or press conferences could be held, but such actions could not divide the people of Sindh.

She maintained that the identity and unity of Sindh could not be determined solely through administrative decisions.

Khuhro said the province’s identity was rooted in the hearts of its people and could not be divided through changes to maps or political rhetoric.

She reiterated that Sindh would continue to protect its provincial autonomy and constitutional identity.

Her remarks came amid discussion in the Sindh Assembly concerning the province’s territorial and constitutional identity. Khuhro emphasised that any debate over Sindh’s status should take into account its historical role in the creation of Pakistan as well as the constitutional rights of its people.
