Pakistan bracing for storm similar to Dubai’s?

Recent flooding in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) following an unprecedented storm has sparked concerns about the potential for similar weather patterns in Pakistan.

While Pakistan is currently preparing for heavy rainfall and thunderstorms, the likelihood of experiencing a storm on the scale witnessed in Dubai remains low. Nevertheless, it is essential to examine the circumstances surrounding the UAE’s recent weather events.

Typically, the UAE experiences minimal rainfall due to its arid desert climate. However, a significant storm, forecasted for several days, swept across all seven regions of the country, causing extensive flooding and disruption.

In just 24 hours, Dubai received over 142 millimeters (5.59 inches) of rainfall, far surpassing its average yearly precipitation.

This led to widespread flooding in residential and commercial areas, as well as on major highways. The drainage systems struggled to cope with the deluge, resulting in significant disruptions.

While some speculation has arisen regarding the role of cloud seeding in exacerbating the rainfall, experts attribute the unprecedented weather to climate change and a storm system passing through the region.

Looking ahead, Pakistan’s National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued directives for authorities to prepare for intense rainfall and thunderstorms until April 29.

Multiple weather models suggest that Pakistan will experience moderate to intense weather systems during this period, with heavy rain, thunderstorms, and hailstorms expected in various regions of the country.
