Pakistan, China sign 5 MoUs to expand business

GUANGZHOU: Pakistan and China have taken another step towards expanding trade, investment and business cooperation, with the two countries exploring new opportunities across several high-growth sectors at a major business forum in Guangzhou.

The fifth Pakistan Investment and Business Environment Exchange Forum 2026 brought together representatives from both countries to discuss ways to increase bilateral trade, attract investment and create stronger links between Pakistani and Chinese businesses.

The forum featured policy discussions, investment presentations, industrial agreements, business-to-business (B2B) meetings and a display of products from different sectors. Officials and business representatives used the event to highlight investment opportunities and explore potential partnerships.

One of the key developments was the signing of five memoranda of understanding (MoUs) covering sectors including electric vehicles, battery manufacturing, construction materials, furniture, pine nuts, as well as medical and business tourism.

The agreements are expected to provide a platform for businesses from both countries to develop joint ventures and expand commercial activity. The focus on electric vehicles and battery manufacturing is particularly significant as Pakistan seeks to encourage new technologies, industrial development and investment in emerging industries.

The forum also highlighted opportunities in energy, e-commerce, construction materials, furniture and food processing, giving Chinese investors and companies a broader view of Pakistan’s potential business market.

The event carried additional significance as Pakistan and China mark 75 years of diplomatic relations. Participants reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening economic ties and expanding cooperation beyond traditional trade.

Discussions also focused on the future of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), particularly the possibility of expanding industrial and infrastructure cooperation. Greater industrial collaboration under CPEC could help promote investment, technology transfer and employment opportunities while strengthening supply chains between the two countries.

Business-to-business meetings remained an important part of the forum, allowing companies to directly explore commercial opportunities, investment proposals and possible partnerships.

The latest engagement comes as Pakistan seeks to increase exports, attract foreign investment and diversify its economic partnerships. For China, deeper cooperation with Pakistani businesses offers opportunities to expand investment and commercial links in sectors with growing demand.

The Guangzhou forum therefore represents more than a diplomatic gathering. With new MoUs, investment proposals and business contacts emerging from the event, Pakistan and China are seeking to turn longstanding bilateral ties into stronger commercial partnerships.

Officials and business leaders will now look to build on the discussions and translate the agreements into practical projects, potentially giving fresh momentum to Pakistan-China economic cooperation.
