Pakistan, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Türkiye to keep regional consultations close

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan, Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye have agreed to maintain close consultations on regional developments as diplomatic efforts intensify over pressing issues affecting the wider region.

The understanding was reached during a telephone conversation between Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and Egyptian Foreign Minister Dr Badr Abdelatty on Wednesday.

Dar, Abdelatty review bilateral ties

According to Pakistan’s Foreign Office, the two foreign ministers reviewed Pakistan-Egypt relations and reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining the close and brotherly ties between the two countries.

The conversation also focused on the rapidly changing regional situation, with both sides agreeing that continued communication would be important in addressing emerging challenges.

Officials said the two ministers discussed regional matters of mutual concern and agreed to keep their governments closely coordinated.

The latest contact reflects efforts by Pakistan and Egypt to strengthen diplomatic engagement at a time when developments in the Middle East and surrounding regions continue to generate international concern.

Regional Four to remain active

An important element of the discussion was the decision by Pakistan, Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye to continue consultations through the Regional Four (R4) mechanism.

The four countries have increasingly sought coordination on regional issues, providing a platform for discussions among major Muslim-majority states with significant diplomatic and strategic interests.

The foreign ministers agreed that the R4 foreign ministers should continue consultations on regional developments and explore ways to maintain coordinated positions where appropriate.

The arrangement could provide an additional channel for the four countries to exchange views as regional crises and diplomatic challenges evolve.

Meeting planned at UN General Assembly

Dar and Abdelatty also agreed to meet in person on the sidelines of the upcoming United Nations General Assembly session in New York.

The meeting is expected to provide an opportunity for the two ministers to discuss bilateral relations and regional developments in greater detail.

The planned encounter also comes as countries across the region seek stronger diplomatic coordination over issues that require collective engagement.

For Pakistan, maintaining communication with Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye offers an opportunity to build broader consensus on regional matters while strengthening ties with key partners.

The Foreign Office said the telephone conversation reaffirmed the importance both countries attach to close consultation.

With the R4 mechanism remaining part of their diplomatic engagement, Pakistan, Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye appear set to keep regional coordination high on their foreign-policy agenda.
