The country is hoping to secure medals in several disciplines including athletics, cricket, judo and shooting, as Pakistani athletes prepare to compete against some of Asia’s strongest sporting nations.

According to the secretary of the Pakistan Olympic Association, Fatima Lakani, the POA’s senior vice president, has been appointed as the Chief de Mission of the Pakistan contingent.

The final size of the delegation was decided during a meeting between Pakistan Olympic Association officials and representatives of the Pakistan Sports Board. Officials finalized a 248-member contingent for the Games, with arrangements also made regarding travel and expenses.

The Pakistan Sports Board will bear the expenses of 94 members of the contingent. The remaining athletes and members of the delegation will travel to Japan either at their own expense or with financial assistance from their respective sports federations.

The Asian Games are scheduled to take place in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan. The competitive events are scheduled to begin on September 17 while the official opening ceremony will be held on September 19.

Pakistan will be looking to improve its medal tally across multiple disciplines. Athletics is expected to remain one of the major areas of interest particularly with javelin thrower Arshad Nadeem emerging as one of the country’s leading medal hopes.

The absence of Indian javelin star Neeraj Chopra could further boost Pakistan’s expectations surrounding Arshad Nadeem. The Pakistani athlete has established himself as a major international competitor and will be under significant national attention during the Games.

Apart from athletics, Pakistan is also hoping for strong performances in cricket, judo and shooting. These sports could provide additional opportunities for Pakistani athletes to win medals at the continental event.
