PCB Director Media Amir Mir confirmed that the board was reviewing the matter internally and said the process was being conducted according to established PCB regulations.

In a statement posted on X, Mir urged the public and stakeholders to avoid relying on speculative reports and unverified claims circulating on social media. He said the PCB would provide information through its official channels and would not comment further while the inquiry was underway.

The board has not revealed the identity of anyone under investigation, the precise allegations or whether the inquiry involves players coaches or other members of the team management.

However, reports suggest that the investigation has widened. According to sources the PCB has obtained mobile phone data belonging to Pakistan players Imam-ul-Haq and Mohammad Rizwan as part of an inquiry into their activities while they were in London.

The reported investigation is said to be examining not only the players’ activities but also their communications and contacts. Sources have suggested that disciplinary action could follow if the board establishes evidence of wrongdoing.

Possible sanctions could include financial penalties disciplinary bans or exclusion from future Pakistan squads, although the PCB has not confirmed such measures.

The latest development comes after a turbulent period for Pakistan cricket following the team’s heavy defeat to England in the Lord’s Test.

In the aftermath of the loss, major changes were made to the Pakistan squad and coaching setup. Seven players were reportedly sent home while head coach Sarfaraz Ahmad and bowling coach Umar Gul were also removed from their positions.

Mike Hesson, who normally oversees Pakistan’s white-ball teams was subsequently given responsibility for the red-ball side for the second Test against England at Edgbaston.
