Peshawar SHO sent to lines after suspects escape

Action has been initiated against the Station House Officer (SHO) of Peshawar’s Badaber police station after several suspects escaped from the SHO’s residential quarters while in custody.

According to police, the detained suspects allegedly managed to remove their handcuffs and snatched weapons from police personnel before opening fire. Two police officers were injured in the firing, while the suspects managed to escape.

Following the incident, the SHO was sent to the police lines as part of departmental action. Further investigation into the circumstances surrounding the escape is underway.

The parents of one of the allegedly escaped suspects, identified as Umair Khan, told Geo News that police had taken their son from their home 22 days ago for questioning.

They said the family had not been provided with any information about his whereabouts or the case against him during this period.

“Now the police are saying that our son injured police personnel and escaped. How could our son injure police officers and manage to flee?” the parents questioned.

They also expressed fears that their son could be killed by police in a staged encounter.

The parents appealed to the Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) to order a transparent investigation into the incident and ensure their son’s safety.

They urged authorities to determine how the suspects were able to escape from police custody, obtain weapons and flee despite being under detention.

The incident has raised questions about security arrangements and the handling of suspects at the police officer’s residential quarters. Authorities are expected to investigate the alleged negligence and establish responsibility for the security lapse.
