PM reaffirms federal support for Gilgit-Baltistan development

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday assured Gilgit-Baltistan Chief Minister Advocate Amjad Hussain that the federal government would continue working closely with the regional administration to improve the lives of people and speed up development across Gilgit-Baltistan.

The assurance came during a meeting held in Islamabad, where the prime minister congratulated the newly elected chief minister on taking office. He expressed confidence that the Gilgit-Baltistan government would play an important role in promoting development and addressing public issues.

The prime minister said the federal government remains fully committed to supporting Gilgit-Baltistan in every possible way. He stressed that close coordination between the Centre and the regional government is essential for ensuring sustainable development and delivering better public services.

During the meeting, Shehbaz Sharif highlighted several development initiatives that are being planned or implemented for the region. He said renewable energy, tourism, infrastructure, healthcare and education remain among the government’s top priorities.

He announced that a 100-megawatt solar energy project is one of the key initiatives aimed at meeting the region’s growing energy needs through clean and sustainable power generation. He said the project would help reduce electricity shortages and support long-term economic growth.

The prime minister also said the government plans to establish Knowledge Schools in Gilgit-Baltistan to improve educational standards and provide modern learning opportunities for students. He added that investment in education is essential for preparing the younger generation for future challenges.

To improve access to government services, the federal government is also planning to establish a Pakistan Asaan Khidmat Centre in Gilgit. The centre will provide multiple public services under one roof, making official procedures easier and more convenient for local residents.

Senior members of the federal cabinet also attended the meeting, including Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Minister for Planning Ahsan Iqbal and Minister for Economic Affairs Ahad Khan Cheema. The participants discussed development priorities and ways to strengthen cooperation between the federal and Gilgit-Baltistan governments.

Chief Minister Advocate Amjad Hussain thanked the prime minister for the federal government’s continued support. He reaffirmed his government’s commitment to working closely with the Centre to accelerate development projects and improve public welfare throughout Gilgit-Baltistan.
