PMD issues advisory for rain, windstorms from June 11–13

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast rain and thunderstorms in several parts of the country from June 11 to 13, warning that some areas may experience strong winds and heavy downpours during this period.

According to the weather advisory, moist currents are expected to enter the upper and central regions, creating conditions that could trigger scattered rain, thunderstorms, and gusty winds in various districts. The PMD said the weather system is likely to affect parts of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Islamabad, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan, while isolated areas in other regions may also see partly cloudy skies and light rain.

Meteorologists have cautioned that the incoming weather activity may bring temporary relief from rising temperatures in some areas, but could also lead to localized disruptions, particularly in urban centres where heavy rainfall may cause water accumulation and traffic delays.

The PMD advised citizens, especially those in vulnerable or low-lying areas, to remain cautious during the forecast period. It also urged authorities to stay alert for possible urban flooding in low-lying parts of major cities if rainfall intensity increases.

Farmers have been advised to plan agricultural activities according to weather conditions and take necessary precautions to protect standing crops from potential wind or rain damage. The department noted that windstorms accompanying thunderstorms could affect standing structures, trees, and electricity infrastructure in some areas.

Travelers and tourists have also been encouraged to exercise caution, particularly in hilly regions where landslides or slippery road conditions may develop due to rainfall. Authorities in northern areas have been advised to keep emergency response teams on standby to handle any untoward situation.

The PMD said it continues to monitor the developing weather system and will issue updated advisories if conditions change or intensify. It added that early warnings are being shared with relevant provincial and district administrations to ensure preparedness.

Weather experts said the upcoming spell is part of a seasonal pattern commonly seen in early summer, when rising temperatures and moist air currents combine to produce unstable atmospheric conditions.

The department has encouraged the public to stay updated through official forecasts and avoid relying on unverified weather reports circulating on social media.

As the country braces for the expected weather activity, authorities are focusing on precautionary measures to minimize any possible impact, particularly in urban and mountainous regions.
