ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar Khan has directed the party’s lawmakers and senators to support the federal budget, according to party sources, following a key consultation meeting in Islamabad.
The meeting was held at Barrister Gohar’s invitation and was attended by senior PTI leaders, including Aamir Dogar and Junaid Akbar. The discussions focused on political developments, the federal budget session and strategies regarding the release of PTI founder Imran Khan.
During the meeting, participants strongly condemned the recent terrorist attack in Bannu and offered prayers for those killed. The party leadership also expressed concern over the sentences handed down to PTI leaders including Ijaz Chaudhry, Mehmood-ur-Rasheed, Umar Cheema and Yasmin Rashid.
According to PTI sources, the participants reviewed various options for securing the immediate release of the party founder. They also decided to convene a high-level meeting in Islamabad soon after the conclusion of the budget session.
Sources said the expected Islamabad meeting may include opposition leader in the National Assembly and Senate, Mahmood Khan Achakzai, as well as Allama Nasir Abbas. The meeting is expected to develop a broader strategy regarding legal and political efforts for Imran Khan’s release.
Barrister Gohar also instructed PTI members of parliament to vote in favour of the federal budget, party sources said. The decision comes as lawmakers continue discussions over the government’s financial proposals.
Speaking during the consultation process, Barrister Gohar said the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly and the provincial government were a trust given by the party founder.
The PTI leadership has continued to hold consultations over its parliamentary strategy while also pursuing political and legal avenues concerning cases involving its senior leadership
