The initiative has been launched under the vision of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif to encourage responsible driving habits and improve road safety across the province.

With the introduction of the new permit system, teenagers will no longer have to wait until the age of 18 to legally ride a motorcycle. Young individuals between the ages of 16 and 18 can now obtain a Juvenile Permit, provided they meet the prescribed requirements and conditions.

According to officials, the permit fee for applicants aged 16 to 17 years has been set at Rs1,000, while teenagers between 17 and 18 years of age will pay a reduced fee of Rs500. Authorities believe that the initiative will help bring young riders into the legal driving framework while ensuring greater compliance with traffic regulations.

The Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Lahore stated that Juvenile Permit holders will be subject to specific restrictions designed to enhance safety. One of the key conditions is that permit holders aged 16 to 18 will not be allowed to ride motorcycles at speeds exceeding 60 kilometers per hour.

To ensure accountability and safeguard young riders, parental or guardian consent has been made mandatory. All applicants seeking a Juvenile Permit must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian when applying. Parents or guardians are required to provide a copy of their national identity card along with a recent passport-sized photograph as part of the application process.

Officials emphasized that the initiative is not only intended to provide legal driving opportunities for teenagers but also to cultivate a culture of responsible road use. By introducing young riders to traffic laws and safety requirements at an earlier age, authorities hope to reduce violations and improve overall road discipline.

The Lahore CTO noted that the program aims to strengthen awareness of traffic regulations, encourage responsible behavior among young motorists, and contribute to safer roads for all citizens. The Juvenile Permit system is expected to play an important role in developing a new generation of responsible and law-abiding drivers throughout Punjab.

The initiative reflects the provincial government’s broader efforts to modernize road safety policies and promote secure transportation practices among the youth.
