Russian President Vladimir Putin said Friday he was not “jealous” of the summit between U.S. President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping, saying Moscow welcomed talks between the world’s two largest economies.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the St. Petersburg International United Cultures Forum, Putin was asked about the recent meeting between Xi and Trump.
“Jealousy is something from a completely different area of a humanitarian nature — relationships between men and women. In politics, in international politics, such categories are not really used,” Putin said.
“We welcome negotiations between the United States and the People’s Republic of China. Why? Because these are the two largest economies in the world.”
Putin was also asked about whether he would attend the upcoming Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in China. He said he intended to take part, but added that the final decision would depend on the situation inside Russia.
“I intend to take part in this work…. I repeat once again, ultimately [the decision on participation] will depend on the situation inside Russia,” Putin told reporters.
The APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting is scheduled to take place in Shenzhen, China, on Nov. 18-19, 2026, according to APEC.
