Punjab PDMA Director General Muhammad Saif Anwar Jappa has directed commissioners and deputy commissioners across the province to remain on high alert. Flash flooding in rainwater drains is also considered a potential risk.
The PDMA has also warned of landslides in Murree, Galiyat and other mountainous areas and instructed relevant departments to remain prepared.
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, several districts are also expected to receive rain accompanied by strong winds and thunderstorms until September 17. Heavy rainfall between September 14 and 17 could trigger flash floods in upper areas.
The PDMA KP has identified Chitral, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Kohistan, Battagram, Mansehra and Abbottabad as areas where landslides are possible. Low-lying areas of Peshawar Mardan and Swabi may also face urban flooding.
Authorities have advised residents to avoid unnecessary travel during severe weather and stay away from weak or damaged buildings, electricity poles and exposed areas during thunderstorms.
Parents have also been urged to keep children away from accumulated rainwater and electrical infrastructure.
The PDMA Punjab emergency helpline is 1129, while the KP PDMA helpline is 1700. Both provincial authorities have urged citizens to contact the relevant emergency centres in case of an emergency.
