The publication reported that Queen Camilla believes Harry and Meghan have been involved in efforts to promote claims made in Spencer’s memoir, Swan Song: Diana, My Sister. The report did not identify the source or provide independent evidence for the claim.

According to the National Examiner, the unnamed source said Camilla was “convinced” that Harry and Meghan were “encouraging this all” from “behind the scenes”, alongside Spencer.

The report also claimed that Camilla was angry because she and King Charles had recently welcomed Harry and Meghan to Highgrove House and had previously hosted them at Clarence House. The source was quoted as saying Camilla was “furious that Charles ever convinced her to play nice with them”.

The claims come amid renewed attention to Spencer’s memoir, which contains his account of King Charles’s reaction to Diana’s death in 1997. Spencer has written that Charles, then Prince of Wales, sounded “giddily elated” during a telephone conversation after Diana’s death. He also recalled Charles saying, “Rest assured, we’ll forget her soon enough.”

Buckingham Palace responded to the claims by saying that “the pain of fraternal grief can cloud reason, affect judgment and colour memory in ways others do not recognise, even many years after such a loss”.

Spencer has said his account reflects what he remembers and has acknowledged that he cannot know what Charles was thinking at the time.
