Senior leader of the Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party and Punjab Assembly member Shoaib Siddiqui has submitted a resolution against Maulana Fazlur Rehman over his remarks regarding national security institutions.
The resolution stated that criticism targeting security institutions was disappointing and irresponsible. It said that statements against state institutions could harm national interests.
According to the resolution, questioning the sacrifices of the Pakistan Army and security personnel was not a form of political criticism. It described such remarks as insensitive towards those who have lost their lives while serving the country.
Shoaib Siddiqui said the sacrifices of the armed forces and security institutions should be respected. He added that the nation values the efforts of security personnel who work for the protection and stability of the country.
The resolution also stated that all institutions responsible for national defence deserve appreciation and support. It called for avoiding statements that could create division or weaken public confidence in state institutions.
The move comes after criticism over comments made about the role and sacrifices of security forces. Political debate over the issue has continued, with different parties expressing their views.
Shoaib Siddiqui reiterated that the people of Pakistan stand with the country’s defence institutions and recognise their contribution to maintaining national security.
Earlier, Defence Minister Khawaja Asif on Monday slammed JUI-F chief Fazlur Rehman over his remarks about military personnel, deploring them as ‘morally insensitive’. He said that linking soldiers’ sacrifices to their salaries was unfair and deeply hurtful to the families of martyrs.
Responding to the JUI-F chief’s statement, Asif said that the Maulana, as a seasoned politician and distinguished religious leader, was expected to exercise greater responsibility in his choice of words. He stressed that no one lays down his life merely for a salary, particularly at a time when Pakistan continues to wage a war against terrorism.
