A Florida woman accused of firing a semiautomatic rifle at Rihanna’s Beverly Crest home has been indicted on an attempted murder charge and pleaded not guilty, prosecutors said Wednesday.
Ivanna Lisette Ortiz, 36, of Orlando, Florida, is also charged with 10 counts of assault with an assault weapon and three counts of shooting at an inhabited dwelling or camper. If convicted as charged, she faces up to life in prison.
Prosecutors allege Ortiz drove to the property on March 8 and fired multiple rounds at the home. Rihanna, her partner A$AP Rocky, their three children and several other people were on the property at the time, but no one was struck by gunfire.
The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced the indictment on Wednesday. Ortiz is being held on $2.65 million bail and is due back in court for a pretrial hearing on Oct. 29.
District Attorney Nathan J. Hochman said it was “pure luck and not a matter of restraint” that no one was killed or injured.
According to the indictment and court records, Rihanna and Rocky were in an Airstream trailer when the shooting occurred, while their children were in a nursery. Prosecutors have not publicly disclosed a motive for the shooting.
Ortiz was arrested later that day in Sherman Oaks. She was previously arrested in Florida in 2023 on suspicion of domestic violence and battery and in 2021 on suspicion of careless driving, according to records cited by the Los Angeles Times. She was also involved in a bankruptcy case in 2013.
