GTA 6 creator merch draws attention amid criticism of $399.99 Collector’s Box

Rockstar Games has sent promotional Grand Theft Auto VI merchandise to content creators, with fans comparing the items favourably with the game's $399.99 Goodtime State – Vice City Collection.

Rockstar Games has sent promotional Grand Theft Auto VI merchandise to content creators, with fans comparing the items favourably with the game’s $399.99 Goodtime State – Vice City Collection.

YouTuber TmarTn showed the contents of one such package in a video, including a blue Vice City-themed T-shirt, a blue cap, a Rockstar-branded tote bag, stickers and a Zippo lighter.

The package was sent in a black box bearing the Rockstar Games logo and was not the same as the $399.99 Collector’s Box sold through the Rockstar Store.

The official Vice City Collection includes an Macca the Gator figure, Oakley sunglasses, a New Era cap, a crossbody bag, a magnetic mirror, a shot glass, a swizzle spoon, a keychain, enamel pins, stickers and a poster. Rockstar lists the collection at $399.99 and says a copy of Grand Theft Auto VI is sold separately.

The Macca the Gator figure has become a particular focus of criticism from some fans, while reactions to the creator package have been more positive. GamesRadar reported that some fans said they preferred the promotional items shown by TmarTn to the contents of the official Collector’s Box.

One commenter under TmarTn’s video said they would “rather have that than the collectors edition,” according to the report.

It is not clear whether Rockstar plans to sell the same items included in the creator package. GTAVice reported that similar products appeared in a recent data mine of the Rockstar Store, but pricing and release dates have not been confirmed.

Rockstar announced the Goodtime State – Vice City Collection on Sept. 24, describing it as a limited-edition set inspired by Macca the Gator, a fictional television character in the game’s Leonida setting. The collection is due to arrive on Nov. 19, the same day Grand Theft Auto VI is scheduled for release.
