Ryan Reynolds admits his kids reject his charm

Ryan Reynolds has revealed that even his trademark charm and quick wit are not enough to impress his own children.

The 49-year-old actor, known for his humorous personality and roles as confident, fast-talking characters, opened up about his family life while promoting his upcoming action thriller Mayday. Reynolds is currently busy with promotional activities for the film alongside his co-stars Kenneth Branagh and Maria Bakalova.

During a recent promotional conversation, Reynolds was asked about the one situation in his real life where his famous ability to charm people simply does not work. While the question may have seemed difficult, the actor immediately knew the answer.

According to Reynolds, his biggest challenge is not winning over an audience, handling a difficult situation or convincing a colleague. Instead, it is getting a reaction from his own children.

“Oh, my kids. No chance. Like, no, never,” Reynolds joked, explaining that his children remain completely unimpressed whenever he tries to use his charm on them.

The actor added that his children can understand exactly what he is doing, which somehow makes their reaction even more brutal. Rather than being entertained by their father’s jokes or impressed by his playful personality, they simply reject his efforts.

“They understand what I’m doing but reject it wholesale,” Reynolds explained.

He jokingly admitted that the experience is not particularly helpful for his confidence. For someone whose career has benefited greatly from his comedic timing and charismatic screen presence, being ignored by his own children can be a humbling experience.

Reynolds described the situation as both ineffective and damaging to his self-esteem. His children, he said, can respond with the kind of unimpressed reaction that instantly makes him realize his carefully delivered charm has failed.

The actor also recalled the simple reaction he often receives from them: “Ugh.”

While Reynolds has built a reputation for making millions of people laugh with his humor, his children apparently have a much higher standard. At home, being their famous father does not automatically make his jokes funny or his personality impressive.

The actor shares four children with his wife, actress Blake Lively. Their family includes daughters James, Inez and Betty, along with their youngest child, Olin. Reynolds and Lively have generally kept their children away from much of the public spotlight, choosing to maintain a level of privacy around their family life.

Despite his children’s lack of appreciation for his charm, Reynolds appeared to take the situation in good humor. His comments offered a glimpse into the more relatable side of his life away from Hollywood, showing that even a globally recognized star can struggle to impress the people closest to him.

Reynolds also reflected on how people’s understanding changes as they become older and wiser. He suggested that greater intelligence and experience can sometimes make a person more aware of how much they still do not know.

Professionally, Reynolds is preparing for the release of Mayday, an action thriller in which he stars alongside Kenneth Branagh and Maria Bakalova. The film is scheduled to arrive on Apple TV on September 4.

For now, Reynolds may continue to be one of Hollywood’s most recognizable and charismatic stars, but it appears that his toughest audience will remain the four children waiting for him at home.
