Islamabad teams mobilised amid heavy rain

Islamabad: Heavy rainfall in the federal capital has prompted the Capital Development Authority (CDA), Metropolitan Corporation Islamabad (MCI) and District Administration to mobilise joint teams across the city to manage drainage and traffic-related issues.

Officials said field teams are continuously monitoring drains, drainage channels, underpasses, low-lying areas and other vulnerable locations to prevent water accumulation and minimise disruption to traffic.

Authorities have directed officials and field staff from the CDA, MCI, District Administration, Islamabad Water and Rescue services to remain present in the field throughout the spell of rain. They have also been instructed to maintain close coordination and respond promptly to any situation that could affect public safety or mobility.

The authorities have adopted a zero-tolerance policy towards negligence or delays in clearing rainwater. Teams are carrying out drainage operations at vulnerable points and keeping a close watch on areas that are more likely to experience waterlogging.

Officials said departments are working together to ensure the smooth movement of traffic and provide immediate assistance to citizens wherever required.

The CDA and District Administration have also advised residents to avoid unnecessary travel during periods of heavy rainfall. Citizens have been urged to stay away from low-lying areas, underpasses and other locations where rainwater may accumulate.

Authorities further advised motorists to exercise caution, follow traffic instructions and avoid routes affected by waterlogging.

Officials said all concerned departments remain fully mobilised and are monitoring the situation to ensure timely drainage, safe traffic movement and maximum relief for residents during the ongoing rain.
