DERA ISMAIL KHAN: The district administration of Dera Ismail Khan has imposed Section 144 for 30 days, banning public gatherings, rallies, processions and motorcycle pillion riding amid growing security concerns.

The restrictions will remain in effect from October 13 to November 11, 2026, unless withdrawn or amended by the authorities. Deputy Commissioner Hakmatullah issued the order following a request from the district police officer, who cited the prevailing law and order situation.

The notification also prohibits the display, carrying and possession of weapons in violation of applicable laws. The use or installation of tents, temporary structures and other obstacles on roads, highways and public places has also been banned if they obstruct traffic or restrict public movement.

The district administration said the measures were necessary to prevent potential threats to human life, public safety and public order. Officials warned that public gatherings and processions could disrupt traffic, interfere with essential services and create law and order problems.

The order further prohibits activities that could endanger public safety, obstruct movement or disturb public peace. Anyone violating the restrictions will face legal action under Section 188 of the Pakistan Penal Code, according to the notification.

Section 144 empowers district authorities to impose temporary restrictions when immediate preventive action is considered necessary to address threats to public safety and order.

The decision comes amid a series of deadly incidents in DI Khan in recent weeks. On September 26, a suicide bombing at a joint checkpoint near Aman Mela in Darazinda killed at least 12 people and injured 35 others. Two Rescue 1122 personnel were later killed when their ambulance came under fire while transporting the injured. The Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan claimed responsibility for the attack.

On October 7, five people, including two Federal Board of Revenue officials, were killed in separate shooting incidents in the district, adding to concerns over the deteriorating security situation.

The latest restrictions also come after emergency measures were imposed in DI Khan and 11 other districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on October 11 under Article 232 of the Constitution, alongside the imposition of governor’s rule in the province.
