The Hockey World Cup 2026 management invited Shehbaz Senior to attend the final as an FIH Legend and presented him with an award in recognition of his contribution to the sport.
Shehbaz Senior captained Pakistan when the national team won the 1994 Hockey World Cup.
The 2026 World Cup final between Spain and Germany was held on Sunday at the Belfius Hockey Arena in Wavre, Belgium.
Germany defeated Spain by a single goal to win the title, while Spain became only the second country after Pakistan to win the Hockey World Cup four times.
Shehbaz Senior described the invitation as an honour for himself and Pakistan.
He said the recognition reflected Pakistan hockey’s outstanding heritage and its contribution to the sport.
Pakistan returned to the World Cup after a long absence and finished 11th in the tournament.
King Philippe of Belgium attended the final as the guest of honour.
