Spider-Man: Brand New Day has achieved a major milestone at the global box office, overtaking James Cameron’s Titanic to enter the top five highest-grossing films in cinema history.

The latest Spider-Man adventure has earned around $2.332 billion worldwide since its release on July 31, according to recent box-office figures.

The film has now moved into fourth place among the highest-grossing movies of all time, pushing Titanic, which has collected approximately $2.264 billion through its original release and later re-releases, down the rankings.

The superhero film has also surpassed the 2025 Chinese animated hit Ne Zha 2, which stands at around $2.270 billion.

The gap between Spider-Man: Brand New Day and third-placed Avatar: The Way of Water is now extremely narrow. The latter has earned approximately $2.334 billion globally, leaving Spider-Man just a few million dollars behind.

If the film overtakes Avatar: The Way of Water, it would enter the all-time top three. Only Avengers: Endgame and Avatar would remain ahead of it.

The current box-office rankings put Avatar at the top with approximately $2.923 billion, followed by Avengers: Endgame at $2.797 billion. Avatar: The Way of Water occupies third place, while Spider-Man: Brand New Day is now fourth.

The film has also joined an exclusive group of movies that have crossed the $2 billion mark worldwide. It reportedly reached the milestone faster than all films except Avengers: Endgame, which achieved the feat in a record 11 days.

The latest success adds another major achievement to Spider-Man’s long-running popularity at the global box office. The film is also being recognised as one of the strongest-performing comic-book movies of the decade.

The movie is directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, who takes over directing duties from Jon Watts. Tom Holland once again plays Peter Parker, with the film combining large-scale action with a more emotional storyline.

With its theatrical run still generating substantial revenue, Spider-Man: Brand New Day could continue climbing the rankings. Its immediate target is Avatar: The Way of Water, while the two films ahead of it remain significantly further away.

The race at the top could become even more competitive later this year, as Avengers: Endgame is scheduled to return to cinemas in September ahead of the release of Avengers: Doomsday in December.
