RAWALPINDI: A Rawalpindi court on Monday handed down life sentences to three convicts in the high-profile murder case of Majid Satti, bringing an end to a trial that began after the registration of the case in 2022.
Additional Sessions Judge Afshan Ijaz Sufi convicted Farrukh Imtiaz Khokhar s/o Imtiaz Khokar alias Taji Khokhar, Ameer Hamza, and Haider Ali Nawaz alias Ali Jogi in FIR No. 2349/2022, registered at Sadiqabad Police Station under Sections 302, 109, 148, 149 and 114 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC).
According to the court’s sentence warrants issued on July 14, Farrukh Imtiaz Khokhar was convicted under Sections 302/109/114 PPC, while Ameer Hamza and Haider Ali Nawaz were convicted under Sections 302/148/149 PPC. All three were awarded life imprisonment (Ta’zir).
The court also directed each convict to pay Rs1 million as compensation to the legal heirs of the deceased under Section 544-A of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC). In the event of non-payment, the amount will be recoverable as arrears of land revenue. The benefit of Section 382-B CrPC was extended to the convicts where applicable.
Immediately after the verdict was announced, law enforcement personnel arrested Farrukh Imtiaz Khokhar, who was present in the courtroom. The court subsequently issued sentence warrants authorising the Superintendent of Central Jail Adiala, Rawalpindi, to take the convicts into custody and execute the sentences in accordance with the law.
The prosecution maintained that the case was supported by documentary evidence, witness testimonies and the findings of the police investigation. Following the completion of trial proceedings, the court found the accused guilty and convicted them accordingly.
The verdict was welcomed by the family of the deceased, who said they had pursued justice through legal channels for several years and expressed satisfaction over the court’s decision.
Police officials described the judgment as a significant step towards upholding the rule of law, reiterating their commitment to taking action against those involved in serious crimes without discrimination.
