In an interview with Esquire, Cruise described a schedule that leaves little room for rest. He said he works every single day of the week, constantly studying and training for future roles even while juggling current commitments. According to him, this ongoing preparation is less about a single project and more about a continuous mindset he maintains at all times.

Cruise emphasised that thorough preparation is the backbone of his career and the reason he has been able to take on physically and mentally demanding roles for decades. He repeated the word “prep” several times during the conversation, underlining just how central it is to his process. For Cruise, there is no shortcut. Every role, every stunt, and every transformation depends on the groundwork laid well in advance.

That philosophy was put to the test during the making of his upcoming film Digger, directed by acclaimed filmmaker Alejandro G. Iñárritu. For the project, Cruise underwent a significant physical transformation to play Digger Rockwell, a wealthy and aging oil tycoon, a role that pushed his usual routine to new extremes.

The transformation demanded far more than typical film preparation. Getting the look right required extensive time in makeup, often stretching his days on set to nearly 19 hours. Rather than a single demanding scene, the entire production process became a test of endurance for the actor.

At times, the schedule grew so intense that Cruise chose to remain overnight at the studio instead of returning home, simply to stay on track with the film’s demanding timeline. This level of commitment reflects the same mentality he has built his career on, treating every project as an opportunity to push his limits further.
