Train services suspended in Balochistan

Railway authorities have suspended intercity train services from Balochistan for two days as repair work continues on a section of the railway track.

The Jaffar Express, which operates between Quetta and Peshawar, will not depart from Quetta for Peshawar on September 5 and 6. Railway officials said the temporary suspension aims to facilitate repair and maintenance work on the track and ensure safer train operations.

Meanwhile, the Jaffar Express travelling from Peshawar to Quetta has also been affected. Authorities have limited today’s service to Jacobabad, meaning the train will not continue its journey to Quetta.

The disruption has created difficulties for passengers travelling to and from Quetta, particularly those who rely on rail services for long-distance journeys. Travellers may now have to make alternative arrangements, which could increase both travel time and costs.

The latest suspension adds to ongoing concerns about limited rail connectivity in Balochistan. Two other important passenger services — the Bolan Mail, which connects Balochistan with Karachi, and the Chaman Passenger, which serves the Chaman route — have remained out of operation for around six months.

The prolonged closure of these services has further reduced travel options for residents and visitors in the province. Passengers and local communities have repeatedly faced difficulties due to the limited availability of reliable railway connections between Balochistan and other parts of the country.

Railway authorities are expected to restore the affected services once the track repair work is completed and operational conditions allow trains to resume their normal schedules.
