At least seven people were killed and five others injured in two consecutive explosions in the Phang Musa Khel area of Bannu district, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, on Saturday.

According to District Police Officer (DPO) Yasir Afridi, the first blast targeted a passenger vehicle with an improvised explosive device (IED), causing multiple casualties. As the injured were being transported to a medical facility, a second explosion struck the vehicle carrying the wounded, resulting in further loss of life and injuries.

Police and security personnel rushed to the scene, cordoned off the area, and launched a search operation. Investigators have begun collecting evidence to determine the circumstances behind the attack.

President Asif Ali Zardari condemned the incident and expressed deep sorrow over the deaths of innocent civilians. He offered condolences to the bereaved families and wished a speedy recovery to those injured. The president also vowed that efforts to combat terrorism would continue and that those supporting militant activities would be held accountable.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif strongly denounced the attack, calling terrorism a threat to Pakistan’s peace and stability. He directed authorities to provide the best possible medical treatment to the injured and ordered an immediate investigation into the incident. The prime minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to eliminating terrorism and bringing those responsible to justice.

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi also condemned the blasts, describing the targeting of innocent civilians as a barbaric act. He expressed sympathy with the victims’ families and prayed for the recovery of the injured.

Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi took notice of the attack and sought a detailed report from police officials. He assured the affected families of government support and instructed authorities to ensure the injured receive proper medical care.

The tragic incident has once again highlighted the security challenges facing the region as authorities continue their investigation into the twin blasts.
