Two Pakistan Navy personnel were martyred while carrying out patrol duties at sea to safeguard maritime security, the Navy’s Directorate-General of Public Relations (DGPR) said on Wednesday.

KARACHI: Two Pakistan Navy personnel were martyred while carrying out patrol duties at sea to safeguard maritime security, the Navy’s Directorate-General of Public Relations (DGPR) said on Wednesday.

The Navy identified the martyrs as Shoaibur Rehman (PMA-IV) and Ghufran Nasar (PMT-II).

According to the statement, both personnel embraced martyrdom while performing their assigned duties during a maritime security patrol.

Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Naveed Ashraf expressed deep grief over the deaths and paid tribute to the sailors for their service.

Senior Navy officials also attended the funeral prayers and met the families of the martyrs.

The Navy has increased its focus on maritime security amid growing regional tensions and threats to commercial shipping.

In March, the Pakistan Navy launched Operation Muhafizul Bahr to protect national shipping and maritime trade against multiple threats.

The operation was launched in response to the changing regional maritime security situation and concerns over possible disruptions to important sea routes.

Pakistan relies heavily on maritime trade, with around 90 per cent of the country’s trade carried by sea.

The operation aims to keep vital shipping routes safe and ensure the uninterrupted movement of commercial vessels.

The Navy said its personnel continue to perform duties at sea to protect Pakistan’s maritime interests and maintain security along critical waterways.
