Pakistan and the United Kingdom have agreed to strengthen cooperation in security, law enforcement, and migration management, while reaffirming their commitment to deepening bilateral relations.
The understanding was reached during a high-level meeting in Islamabad between Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and British Deputy Foreign Secretary Hamish Falconer, where both sides reviewed Pakistan-UK relations and discussed key regional and international developments.
During the talks, Falconer praised Pakistan’s efforts in promoting dialogue and easing tensions between the United States and Iran, describing Islamabad’s contribution as an important step toward regional and global stability. He commended Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Chief of Defence Forces and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir for what he termed a historic role in advancing peace and reducing tensions in the region.
The British official said Pakistan’s diplomatic engagement had strengthened its image as a responsible and influential advocate for peace on the international stage.
Interior Minister Naqvi highlighted the success of the Upskill Project, noting that the initiative had enhanced the capabilities of Pakistani institutions and contributed to improving professional standards through international collaboration.
Both countries agreed to expand cooperation in counterterrorism efforts, law-enforcement training, institutional development, and measures aimed at tackling illegal migration. The two sides also discussed growing concerns over fraudulent student visas and pledged to work together to address the issue.
Naqvi reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to dismantling human trafficking networks and taking strict action against illegal migration channels. He also raised concerns about the presence of terrorist groups operating from Afghan territory, urging Afghan authorities to prevent the use of their soil for activities targeting Pakistan.
Reaffirming Islamabad’s desire for stronger ties with London, the interior minister said Pakistan highly values its longstanding partnership with the United Kingdom and is committed to broadening cooperation across multiple sectors.
Senior Pakistani ministers, top government officials, British High Commissioner Jane Marriott, and representatives from key law-enforcement agencies attended the meeting, reflecting the importance both countries place on their strategic partnership.
