According to customs officials in Khyber district, 73 containers carrying UN food supplies have been transported to Afghanistan through the Torkham border during the past week.
Officials said the clearance process for an additional 86 containers is currently underway. The United Nations is expected to dispatch around 1,000 containers of food assistance to Afghanistan under the ongoing humanitarian relief operation.
Customs authorities said Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs granted permission for the shipments following a request from the United Nations, facilitating the movement of humanitarian supplies.
The aid deliveries come despite the prolonged closure of the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, which has remained shut since October 12, 2025, due to tensions along the frontier.
The resumption of UN food shipments is expected to help address humanitarian needs in Afghanistan while ensuring the uninterrupted delivery of essential food assistance through the Torkham crossing
