US military says It destroyed Iranian surveillance tower at Chabahar port

The United States Central Command (CENTCOM) announced that American forces destroyed a surveillance tower at Iran’s Chabahar Port during a military operation carried out on July 16, describing the strike as a targeted action against infrastructure allegedly used by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) for maritime surveillance and operational coordination.

In an official statement, CENTCOM said US forces successfully struck a surveillance tower located at Shahid Kalantari Port in Chabahar, a strategic port situated on Iran’s southeastern coast along the Gulf of Oman. According to the US military, the operation was aimed at disrupting the IRGC’s ability to monitor and coordinate activities in one of the world’s most important maritime regions.

The statement claimed that the destroyed tower formed part of a long-established naval surveillance network operated by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. US officials alleged that this network had been used for decades to observe commercial vessels passing through the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global shipping route that handles a significant share of the world’s oil and commercial trade.

CENTCOM stated that the surveillance infrastructure enabled Iranian forces to track the movement of merchant ships and support operations targeting commercial maritime traffic.
