The disappearance of a young divorced woman from Jaranwala has raised serious questions about the safety of citizens who turn to the legal system to resolve family disputes.

Shamaila Parween, believed to be 26 or 27 years old, is a mother of a one-year-old daughter. According to information available in the case, she had approached a Family Court seeking maintenance for her child following the breakdown of her marriage.

An FIR registered at Police Station Sadar Jaranwala states that proceedings regarding the maintenance case were pending when Shamaila’s former husband allegedly threatened her with serious consequences if she did not withdraw the case.

The situation reportedly took a disturbing turn on the night of September 2, 2026. According to the complainant’s account recorded in the FIR, armed men arrived at Shamaila’s parental home. Some of the men allegedly presented themselves as police personnel. The family reportedly opened the door, after which those present were confined and Shamaila was allegedly taken away at gunpoint. The family subsequently contacted Police 15.

As of September 25, Shamaila had reportedly not returned home, leaving her family seeking answers about her whereabouts.

The case has gained further concern because, according to information conveyed to the family by police, an unidentified young woman’s headless body was recovered in the area on September 3, a day after Shamaila’s alleged disappearance.

The body was reportedly badly injured and burned, making identification difficult. As no one came forward to claim it, the unidentified woman was reportedly buried. However, there is currently no established evidence confirming that the body was Shamaila’s.

The circumstances have nevertheless raised questions about whether authorities conducted forensic checks to determine any possible connection between the missing woman and the unidentified body.

Questions have also emerged over whether DNA samples from Shamaila’s parents or daughter were collected, whether photographs, clothing or other biological evidence were preserved, and whether missing-person records were compared with the details of the unidentified body.

The case also raises broader concerns because Shamaila had reportedly sought legal relief through a Family Court. If the allegations in the FIR regarding threats over the maintenance proceedings are established, the matter would extend beyond a family dispute and raise concerns about the safety of people seeking legal remedies.

Another key issue concerns the identity of the men who allegedly arrived at Shamaila’s home. It remains unclear whether they were actual police officials, individuals impersonating police officers, or persons acting with some form of assistance. The investigation will have to establish what happened.

The individuals named in the FIR remain entitled to due process, and the allegations must be established through evidence and investigation. At the same time, Shamaila’s family is entitled to know what happened to her, while the identity of the unidentified woman also requires clarification.

The central questions remain: Where is Shamaila Parween? Who took her from her home? Was any police authority involved or impersonated? What investigation followed her disappearance? And whose body was recovered on September 3?

If Shamaila is alive, authorities must establish her whereabouts. If she is not, her family deserves the truth. The case has consequently become a test of whether citizens can seek legal protection without fearing retaliation.
