Younis Khan breaks silence on Pakistan coaching return rumours

Former Pakistan captain Younis Khan has addressed growing speculation surrounding his possible return to the national setup, saying he is ready to serve Pakistan cricket in any capacity if the opportunity is offered by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

Speaking to the media during a visit to a newly developed sports complex in Baldia Town, Karachi, the former batting great made it clear that his commitment to Pakistan cricket remains unchanged despite ongoing coaching rumours.

“If I am given an opportunity, I am ready to serve Pakistan in any capacity,” Younis said. “In any role, I will try to perform at my best for Pakistan.”

His remarks come amid increasing reports linking him with a potential role in the national team setup, including discussions about a possible appointment in the red-ball coaching structure. The speculation has gained momentum as Pakistan continues to search for stability in Test cricket following a series of disappointing results.

The national side has recently struggled in the longest format, raising questions about coaching continuity and long-term planning. Former cricketers and analysts have called for experienced names to be included in the system to rebuild the team’s red-ball strength.

Without directly confirming any negotiations, Younis emphasized the importance of former players contributing to Pakistan cricket in whatever role they are assigned.

“Retired players and those who understand the game should come forward and serve Pakistan cricket,” he said. “Whoever gets the chance should serve Pakistan as a Pakistani.”

During his visit, Younis also inspected the under-construction 24-acre sports complex in Baldia Town. Officials briefed him on the planned facilities, which include modern cricket training nets, hockey and football grounds, and indoor sports courts aimed at developing young talent.

The visit and his remarks have once again fueled public interest in whether one of Pakistan’s most successful Test batsmen will take on an official coaching role in the near future, as the PCB continues to evaluate options for strengthening the national team structure.
