Zelenskyy willing to meet Putin at G20 summit: ‘Results matter’

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said he would be willing to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin if the Russian leader attends the upcoming G20 summit in Miami.

KYIV: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said he would be willing to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin if the Russian leader attends the upcoming G20 summit in Miami.

Speaking to Deutsche Welle, Zelenskyy said he would travel to Miami for the summit if Putin were also present.

“Yes, of course. We have to come. We have to meet, to speak and make decisions,” Zelenskyy said.

He stressed that any meeting should focus on achieving concrete outcomes rather than exchanging statements.

“It’s not about words. What I will tell him or what he wants to tell me, it doesn’t matter. It doesn’t matter. […] Results matter. That’s it,” he said.

Zelenskyy also claimed that Russia is losing more than 30,000 soldiers a month, arguing that the figures put Ukraine in a stronger position for negotiations aimed at ending the years-long conflict.

“So that’s why we think that we are now in a good position for negotiations,” he added.

Earlier this week, US President Donald Trump’s envoys Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff travelled to Moscow and Kyiv as part of efforts to revive peace talks between Russia and Ukraine.

Although the latest diplomatic efforts have yet to produce a breakthrough, Zelenskyy described the talks as a positive signal and did not rule out the resumption of negotiations in the future.

The Kremlin has also indicated that US-mediated peace talks with Ukraine could resume, although it has not provided a specific timeline.

The 2026 G20 Leaders’ Summit is scheduled to take place on December 14 and 15 in Miami, Florida.

Putin has not personally attended a G20 summit since 2019. The Kremlin has so far declined to say whether the Russian president plans to attend the Miami summit.
