262 Palestinian journalists killed since Gaza war began: Media office

At least 262 Palestinian journalists have been killed since Israel launched its military offensive in the Gaza Strip in 2023, according to Gaza’s Government Media Office.

The media office said on Saturday that 433 other journalists had been injured during the conflict. It said the deaths included 26 women journalists, while 50 journalists and media workers had also been arrested by Israeli forces. Of those detained, 23 reportedly remain in custody.

In a statement issued on the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian Journalists, the media office described the situation facing Palestinian reporters as an extensive campaign of targeting and destruction.

The statement said the media sector in Gaza has suffered financial losses exceeding $800 million as a result of the conflict.

According to the office, Israeli military operations have completely or partially damaged 12 print media offices, 23 digital media offices, 12 local radio stations and 16 television and satellite channels. It also said 27 printing presses and the offices of five press freedom organisations had been destroyed or damaged.

The Gaza media office called on the international community, the United Nations, the International Federation of Journalists and the Federation of Arab Journalists to take urgent measures to protect Palestinian journalists and provide them with legal and on-ground protection.

The statement also said that the Gaza conflict has resulted in tens of thousands of deaths and widespread destruction across the enclave. It further claimed that Israeli attacks have continued despite a ceasefire that took effect in October 2025.

The figures cited by the Gaza Government Media Office are claims from a party to the conflict and could not be independently verified in the report.
