Maryam Nawaz orders healthcare mega projects

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has directed authorities to ensure the timely completion of ongoing and planned health projects across the province.

She issued the directives while chairing a meeting on health projects in Lahore, where officials briefed her on the progress of various healthcare initiatives. During the meeting, approval was granted for the establishment of the Maryam Nawaz Medical College and Teaching Hospital in Mianwali.

The meeting also decided to establish the Kulsoom Nawaz Cancer Hospital in Dera Ghazi Khan. Officials informed the chief minister that a 268-bed Nawaz Sharif-Maryam Nawaz Institute of Cardiology would also be established in Gujranwala.

A report on the medical college project in Layyah was presented during the meeting. The participants also reviewed several other major healthcare initiatives, including the Nawaz Sharif Medical District, the Institute of Cancer Treatment and Research Centre in Sargodha, and cardiology projects.

The briefing highlighted that several specialised institutes would be established under the Nawaz Sharif Medical District. These would include institutes for infectious diseases, plastic surgery, genetics, surgery and orthopaedics.

Officials further told the meeting that a second children’s hospital and an Institute of Ophthalmology would also be established in the medical district.

In addition, the project would include an Al-Shifa Eye Trust Hospital and a 100-bed general hospital to provide specialised and general healthcare services.

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz stressed the importance of completing the healthcare projects within their scheduled timelines.
