PESHAWAR: Pakistan’s air-defence units have reportedly intercepted eight suspected hostile drones along the western frontier, with security sources saying the unmanned aircraft were neutralised before reaching populated areas.

According to security officials who spoke to Minute Mirror, four drones were intercepted in the mountainous region around Kohat, while another four were detected and neutralised near the Torkham sector.

Officials said the air-defence response involved a combination of electronic countermeasures, commonly referred to as a “soft kill”, and kinetic interception, known as a “hard kill”. The precise method used against each drone was not independently verified.

Security sources alleged that the drones were being used for attacks against civilian areas, but no independent evidence establishing their intended targets was immediately available.

Officials said the incidents caused no reported casualties or property damage. Security forces remained on heightened alert along sensitive sections of the border following the reported interceptions.

A senior security official told Minute Mirror that Pakistan’s air-defence network remained prepared to respond to aerial threats and that security forces were maintaining heightened vigilance along the frontier.

The reported interceptions come amid increased tensions along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border and follow a series of allegations by Pakistani authorities regarding militant activity and cross-border threats.

Afghan authorities have not yet issued an official response to the reported drone interceptions.
