827 accountability cases filed against KP govt employees

PESHAWAR: Accountability proceedings against government employees in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have intensified, with 827 disciplinary cases reported since October 2025 and 589 officials facing penalties.

The figures were presented during a high-level meeting chaired by K-P Chief Minister Muhammad Sohail Afridi to review disciplinary action against government officers and employees. Officials informed the meeting that decisions had been reached in 629 cases, while 198 cases remained pending. Of the decided cases, 589 employees were penalised and 40 were cleared of the allegations.

The action included dismissal of 128 employees, removal of 18 officials and compulsory retirement of six. Two employees were demoted, one was arrested and salary recoveries were ordered from 89 officials. Promotions of 39 employees were also withheld, while others faced charge sheets, salary cuts, suspensions, warnings and reprimands.

Unauthorized absence was identified as the leading offence, accounting for 447 cases, or 54 per cent of the total. Negligence of duty was involved in 120 cases, while corruption, financial irregularities and incompetence accounted for 75 cases each. Other cases involved misconduct, poor supervision and violations of official rules.

The cases originated from district offices, attached departments and institutions, as well as central government departments. The meeting also reviewed disciplinary measures arising from field inspections of health facilities. As a result, 90 employees at District Headquarters Hospital Swabi and 61 officials at District Headquarters Hospital Lakki Marwat were suspended.

The chief minister directed authorities to accelerate proceedings and ensure that the remaining 198 cases are disposed of without unnecessary delay.
