Federal Minister for Planning Ahsan Iqbal has criticised Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) accusing the party of allowing stubbornness and personal pride to take precedence over political wisdom.
In a statement Iqbal said that imposing governor’s rule or declaring an emergency was not the government’s preferred course of action. However he maintained that the Constitution permits such measures and argued that describing them as unconstitutional was incorrect.
The federal minister also expressed concern over rising terrorism in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa describing the security situation as a serious challenge for the country. According to Iqbal, the proposed long march risked creating opportunities for militant groups to move through safer routes.
Iqbal claimed that the government had made every possible effort to resolve political differences through negotiations. However he alleged that PTI had once again chosen confrontation over dialogue and political understanding.

The comments reflect continuing political tensions between the federal government and PTI particularly over governance in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa security concerns and the use of constitutional measures during political disputes.
Iqbal’s remarks also highlight the government’s position that negotiations were attempted before considering other options. However the claims regarding the long march security risks and the political consequences of PTI’s decisions are the minister’s own characterisation of events.
The debate over governor’s rule and emergency powers is likely to remain contentious as questions surrounding constitutional authority public security and political accountability continue to shape discussions in Pakistan.
