Pakistan’s military leadership has issued a strong warning regarding the Indus Waters Treaty, pledging to take “all measures necessary” to secure the country’s water rights amid escalating tensions with India. The declaration was made during the 276th Corps Commanders’ Conference in Rawalpindi, chaired by Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Asim Munir .
The conference came in response to recent Indian rhetoric surrounding the treaty, reaffirming the guidance from a National Security Committee directive issued after India unilaterally put the agreement in abeyance . The Inter-Services Public Relations stated that the forum expressed a “resolute commitment to undertake all measures necessary to ensure availability of Pakistan’s rightful share of water” . This stance reflects growing concerns that water resources could become a flashpoint between the two nuclear-armed neighbors .
The army brass also condemned what it described as externally supported hybrid warfare and disinformation campaigns, following what it called the “comprehensive defeat inflicted” on India during last year’s conflict . It further rejected and strongly condemned human rights violations in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir, calling the disputed territory the “jugular vein of Pakistan” .
Additionally, the forum reiterated concerns over the use of Afghan territory by groups like Fitna al Khawarij for attacks inside Pakistan, affirming the country’s right to defend itself and continue operations under Operation Ghazab-lil-Haq .
