Bernie Taupin reveals Elton John’s Bizarre bedtime habit

Bernie Taupin has opened up about his early life with music legend Elton John, revealing a quirky habit of his longtime songwriting partner that often disturbed his sleep.

The duo began their musical partnership in 1967 and went on to create several iconic hits, including Your Song, Rocket Man, Tiny Dancer, Candle in the Wind and Goodbye Yellow Brick Road.

During a recent interview with Rick Beato, Taupin recalled the humble living arrangements he and John shared before achieving worldwide fame. The pair once lived in a tiny bedroom equipped with bunk beds, where they kept their books and records on separate sides of the room.

Taupin occupied the upper bunk, while John slept below him. Describing the uncomfortable sleeping arrangements, the lyricist recalled how the beds were made of thin chain-link material.

However, it was John’s unusual bedtime habit that made their shared room particularly memorable. According to Taupin, the singer would hang his neck bells on the side of his bed, creating a disturbance that regularly interrupted Taupin’s sleep.

The songwriter admitted that he would respond by picking up the bells and throwing them across the room. He also revealed that he had never shared this particular anecdote publicly before.

Despite their modest beginnings, Taupin and John eventually became one of music’s most celebrated creative partnerships. Their achievements also include winning an Academy Award together in 2020, further cementing their remarkable legacy in the entertainment industry.
