Bilawal calls for parliamentary debate on provinces issue

Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has called for a detailed debate in the National Assembly on the issue of provinces and the country’s administrative system.

Speaking to the media in London, Bilawal said the PPP had a clear position on the issue of provinces and that he was ready to discuss the matter in Parliament.

He said no single political party could resolve all of Pakistan’s problems. Collective political efforts and parliamentary debate were needed to address the country’s major challenges.

Commenting on Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi’s recent remarks about seeking public opinion on administrative restructuring, Bilawal said Naqvi had the right to express his views.

However, he demanded that the issue be brought before the National Assembly for a proper discussion.

Bilawal criticised Naqvi for not attending Parliament frequently. He said the interior minister should come to Parliament and debate the matter there instead of discussing it at business forums.

“If the system has failed, there should be a proper debate in the National Assembly,” Bilawal said.

He questioned why the system had failed and what its possible solutions were. He said these questions should be discussed openly in Parliament.

Bilawal also rejected the idea that decisions about the country’s future should be left to a small group of businessmen.

He said Pakistan’s future and major national decisions required political and parliamentary ownership rather than being determined by a limited group of people.

Bilawal further said the people of Gilgit-Baltistan had given the PPP a clear majority, highlighting the party’s political mandate in the region.

His remarks come amid a growing debate over the possible creation of new provinces and administrative units and the constitutional process required for any such changes.
